This Calathea lancifolia is a showy houseplant.
It has upright, lance-shaped leaves with long wavy edges. The leaves are variegated with dark green strokes on a pale green background. The undersides are a burgundy red and velvety to the touch.
It is also known as a rattlesnake plant as the riffles on the edge of the leave look a bit like the fans on the neck of a rattlesnake. But don't worry - this plant doesn't bite like it name-sake does.
Ever heard of the term “Turn over a new leaf?” Well, that expression is kind of what this plant does when the leaves close up during the night and re-opens as the sun goes up. Overall, this plant is definitely easy to maintain and grow, making it an excellent option for improving the air quality in your home or office.
Calathea plants need bright, but not direct, sunlight to grow. This is because they grow on the floor of jungles and forests where they get limited light through the tops of the trees. In fact, direct sunlight will burn the leaves of a Calathea plant and cause it to lose its vibrant colours.
Allow the top half of the soil to dry before watering again. They can be sensitive to tap water, so try to use rain water or filter watered if you can.
Delivered in a 11cm nursery pot.
