This prickly Ferocactus latispinus is also know as a Devil's barrel cactus.
It is a well known species of cactus which comes from east-central Mexico. It is rare and endangered in the wild, where it is found near Mesa de León in the state of Querétaro, and in the state of Hidalgo.
Originally described as Cactus latispinus in 1824 by English naturalist Adrian Hardy Haworth, it gained its current name in 1922 with the erection of the genus Ferocactus by American botanists Britton and Rose.
Place in lots of bright, indirect light and some sun but avoid harsh sunlight as this may scorch the plant.
Water: once the top layer of soil has dried. As with most plants, cut back on watering in the winter months.
Completely non-toxic to pets and humans. If you can even get close enough to try to eat this plant!
Delivered in 8.5cm plastic nursery pot.
