This Euphorbia flanaganii is a weird-looking guy has grey-green tentacles growing from what looks like a pineapple. It's hardly surprising someone thought it looked like Medusa's head, with snakes growing from her head! New growth begins at the centre of the plant in a pretty rosette formation. Because the green arms reach out, it looks great in a hanging pot. In the right conditions, bright green flowers may appear.
The mature plant will grow baby plants (pups) at the end of the tentacles. If you don't cut them off, the original tentacle will die back and the pup will fall off, growing roots wherever it lands.
Allow the soil to dry before watering – but don't leave it too long. It doesn't like droughts. Top tip: If the tentacles start to curl upwards, you know it needs a water.
Bright, indirect light is best for this guy, so it doesn't burn.
This is a slow-growing variety, so you won't need to cut it back or repot it very often.
A bright corner of a lounge or office is ideal for this statement plant. Be mindful to keep it away from draughts.
This plant is toxic to humans and animals if eaten. The sap is also an irritant, so wear gloves when handling.
