Hoya Australis is more commonly known as a Wax Plant. This lovely leafy green plant comes in a 11cm pot. So you can take it straight out of the box and display it in your home.
These hoya are easy to care for. In fact the less you do, the more they will thrive.
Leave your Hoya to hang, or you can get it to climb, either way it will be happy. The name “Hoya” honours Thomas Hoy who was gardener to the Duke of Northumberland and the first to bring this pretty hanging house plant to the UK.
These pretty plants also help to clean the air. In a study by NASA Hoya Plants were found to remove Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air. Sources of VOCs include many household products, such as; paints, paint strippers and other solvents, aerosol sprays, cleansers and disinfectants, air fresheners and many more.
They do not like too much water, little and often, spraying frequently as they like humid conditions. Bright light, but shade from full sun.
Place them in bright, indirect sunlight.
In the winter growth or most plants will slow down. With Hoyas the general rule is - the lower the light, the slower the growth rate. What I've found is that different Hoyas grow at slightly different rates. So don't worry if one of your hoya plants is growing quicker than the others.
These guys like a bright warm room. Consider a south facing room. They great on shelves or in Macrame hangers.
